According to some recent statistics published by Apple, “Apple is now making iPhones at a rate that exceeds the amount of babies that humans produce on earth every day.”
Well, admittedly that’s a VERY scary thought, but it does drive home the point that authors and other business owners would be wise to utilise mobile technology for their marketing and promotions. To that end, on Thursday February 23rd, 2012, at 3pm Eastern, I’ll be hosting a free webinar called “Step By Step Mobile”,presented by “the” leading mobile marketing expert, Dan Hollings.
STEP BY STEP MOBILE Taught/presented by Dan Hollings
Hosted by Lynn Serafinn from Spirit Authors
Thursday February 23rd, 2012
12noon PST/ 3pm EST/ 8pm UK / 9pm Central Europe
For many years people have been hounding Dan Hollings to reveal some of the secrets he used in helping to promote the mega-million dollar smash-hit movie & book, “The Secret.” Only rarely has Dan revealed anything directly about the strategies he deployed.
Most of us recall the monumental campaign, in fact, here’s what ABC news said at the time:
“The marketing campaign behind ‘The Secret’ is going to go down in history as the greatest case study of viral marketing ever done. Anywhere.”
What some people don’t realize is that after The Secret, Dan went on to become one of the foremost trainers in the Mobile marketing space. He literally “cracked the code” on how businesses, authors and marketers could reap the rewards of the Mobile tsunami that is about to eclipse the internet itself – - – yes, yes, yes… that beloved mobile device we’re all addicted to, is now THE most compelling marketing channel on the planet.
I met Dan last year, when he was one of my guests on the “7 Graces of Marketing” telesummit. At that time, he dazzled me with his innovative ideas. So I thought, Wouldn’t my Spirit Authors friends be interested in what he has to say about mobile technology for marketing books? What if I asked Dan to do a webinar JUST for us?
ASK I DID… and after a little arm twisting (not too much… Dan’s a nice guy), Dan agreed to reveal his secret sauce – but only if I’d invite all of YOU authors and authors-in-the-making.
I asked Dan, “Let’s not look at what you did back in 2006. What would you would do TODAY, if you were marketing a book or movie like The Secret?” Or any book for that matter?”
And that’s exactly what Dan has promised to tell us. He promises me this will be an “edge of your seat” webinar like nothing you’ve ever heard. He has agreed to reveal his “Master Plot” strategy that helped propel The Secret virally around the world PLUS as many new Mobile strategies as he can squeeze into our time slot. This is 90 minutes that you as an author, marketer or business owner can’t afford to miss.
Here are just some of the topics Dan will cover:
Mobile Marketing - Your customers are already there…but are you? Amazon did over 1 Billion in mobile sales in 2010.
Text Messaging – With an astonishing 98% open rate, why are most of us still relying on email to communicate with our audience? Dan will tell us how to tap SMS so that your readers and customers love you.
Social Mobile – Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and others are all mobile… over half of all visits to social media are from mobile users. Are you still picturing your customers sitting in front of a computer? ha!
The Real World is now “Click-able” - if you’re still waiting for customers to click your web links, you may be missing out the latest jaw-dropping mobile technology that should be in every book you publish – no, this is not science fiction.
Mobile Site or blog – Have one? If not, then climb out from under your rock and look around at what device ALL OF YOUR CUSTOMERS are now using (hint, hint… it isn’t a computer).
Planet of The APPS? – As funny as that sounds, it’s a reality. There’s an APP for this and an APP for that… but is there an APP in your future? Is there an APP for your books? Should there be? Or is waste of money, time and effort?
The Big Mobile Blunder – Dan will reveal the BIGGEST mistake authors and marketers are making in Mobile. Get ready for an “ah ha moment” that will change the way you think about Mobile marketing forever.
Not only will you learn awesome stuff on this webinar – things you can apply immediately, but this is also your chance to interact LIVE with Dan and ask him all your questions about Mobile Marketing.
So don’t be shy!

Back when I started Spirit Authors 2 years ago, it was my intentions to create a site that could help mind-body-spirit/self-help authors– both aspiring and extablished–to learn how to establish themselves online, so they could learn how to spread the word about all the great work they do. It was my experience that a great many artist, holistic and spiritually-minded people didn’t like to do marketing; and as a result, they stuggled to survive financially. I found it sad to see so many people give up on their dreams, so I wanted to make sure Spirit Authors provided them with lots of (free) resources that could help them.
At the exact same time I was launching Spirit Authors, I began writing a new book of my own, which originally was intended to be a book for all those sensitive souls who didn’t like marketing, but needed to do it. I thought if I could help create a new paradigm for these kinds of people, it might be useful.
But after I started diving deeply into the subject of marketing, I discovered so many revealing (and sometimes shocking) things about its history, intention and practice, and so many serious issues arising from consumer culture, that I knew this book was going to be something altogether different from what I had originally intended.
The 7 Graces of Marketing is a bold, holistic and often spiritual examination not merely of the world of advertising, but also of our entire world view. It reveals how our relationships with Self, others, our businesses, our economy and the Earth impact our health, our economy and the delicate ecological balance of our natural world. As much for the conscious consumer as the business owner, this book shows why traditional ways of selling are ultimately doomed to fail, and how both business owners and consumers can begin to heal the world by embracing a new paradigm I call ‘The 7 Graces of Marketing.’
When you buy the book TODAY you can receive the complete set of 7 MP3s (over 10 hours of audio) from last week’s 7 Graces of Marketing Telesummit, with 24 internationally renowned speakers, such as Joe Vitale, Eric Pearl and 22 others, speaking about the ‘7 Deadly Sins’ of marketing and the ‘7 Graces’ of marketing. You’ll also receive dozens of other gifts offered by my friends and colleagues, to express our appreciation for your support.
To buy the book, and claim your MP3s from the 7 Graces Telesummit, and receive a fabulous selection of gifts from my friends and colleauges, here’s all you need to do:
On that page, you will see links to buy the book on Amazon US, Canada or UK (yes, you may purchase the book from another Amazon site; we just didn’t have room for all the links)
Click a link to buy the book on the Amazon of your choice. You may buy the book in either paperback or Kindle version
After you have purchased the book, Amazon will give you a purchase code. The purchase code is a 17-digit number, and it looks like this: 123-1234567-1234567. Copy this number to your computer clipboard.
Return to the “launch page” and enter your name, email AND your Amazon purchase code in the form.
When you hit the button that says “Yes, Please!” you will be taken immediately to the “bonus” page. This page has all the links to take you to the bonus gifts.
Just click the links of the gifts you would like to download.
That’s all there is to it!
I am extremely passionate about this subject (as you will have heard if you listened to last week’s telesummit), and I am dedicated to getting the dialogue started in the business sector so we can change the way we do marketing, and make a brighter, healthier, happier world for our children and children’s children. I do hope you’ll check out The 7 Graces of Marketing.
Please PAY NO ATTENTION if Amazon says, “Only 3 left in stock” or “Ships in 1-4 weeks”. We have test ordered the book, and it takes about a 7-10 days to ship, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to “be out of stock” because this is a “print on demand” book, which means the book will be printed and shipped to you whenever you place an order.
If you have any questions or experience any problems, please do not hesitate to contact me via the contact from on this site.
AND, I’d love to hear what you have to say about the book after you have read it, so be sure to subscribe to this blog so you can find your way back here. I’m also starting a 7 Graces of Marketing Community for everyone who has bought the book, and who would like to meet others of like mind who want to bring ethics and values back into our business and marketing. So please do stay in touch.
Today I received this from one of our Spirit Authors members. It had me in stitches, and I simply had to share it with you. Apparently, it’s all over the web, so I haven’t managed to find who the original author is (the comments below are theirs, not mine), but whoever you are, thank you for the fun today.
AND… if any of you reading this happen to be professional proofreaders, you are most welcome to put your business info in the comments below. I am sure my readers, members and clients will appreciate your help when they get ready to publish their books… I know I will!
Thank you Spirit Authors member Joan Gillman for sharing this.

Book promotion expert Lynn Serafinn from Spirit Authors shares her tips on what every first-time author should know about royalties, retail price and printing costs before they self-publish a book.
Recently, in one of my LinkedIn Groups, a new author asked, “Does anybody have experience with self-publishing companies and the way they pay royalty fees?” I thought the answer to this question was something many new authors would like to know, so I thought I would share my response with my Spirit Authors readers. Below is a copy of the post I made on December 15th, 2010.
Hi there LinkedIn,
Here’s a breakdown of how most self-publishing royalties work:
By self-publishing companies, I assume you mean “publishers” such as iUniverse (probably the most known, but really only one of many) who set up your book to be distributed via print-on-demand (POD). The company I used for my first book is a small company called Authors Online – http://authorsonline.co.uk. I chose them because they are a small friends-and-family run company who take good care of their clients.
The POD press most often used is a company called Lightning Source. There are 2 major Lightning Source plants (when I last checked), one in Kentucky and one over here in England in Milton Keynes.
These kinds of companies don’t generally get your books into shops, but rather focus on Amazon, B&N, etc. The self-publishing publisher sets up your ISBN and arranges for your book to appear on all these online retailers. But be SURE you read the fine print. I had a scenario not very long ago when one of my clients went with Create Space (Amazon’s own print-on-demand publishing company) and they did NOT place the book on all 6 (now 7) Amazon sites throughout the world, cutting down SIGNIFICANTLY on my client’s sales. So be sure you ask if the company GUARANTEES you will be on all Amazon sites… but (if your book is in English), most especially Amazon US, Canada and UK.
Ok, so here are 7 facts about self-publishing and typical royalty structures:
1) Amazon buys your book for 45% of the retail price. That means, if you book retails for $10, Amazon pays your publisher $4.50 (not you… unless you actually START a publishing company and are selling the books directly to Amazon).
2) From that $4.50, your publisher subtracts their printing costs. Not sure of what they are in the US, but here in the UK, the costs are typically 1p (let’s say 2 cents) per page, plus 70p (let’s say $1.25) for the cover. So a 100 page book would cost $3.25 to print (don’t quote me on the exact figures; these were current as of 18 months ago in the UK. DO ask your publisher these questions).
3) If the book costs $3.25 to print, and you have received $4.50 from Amazon, it means your NET is $1.25.
4) Most self-publishers do a 50/50 split of the net, or in that ball park. That would mean your royalty per book sold is a whopping $0.67. Most payouts are quarterly, starting 4-6 months after publication.
5) Of course, you could also set the retail price higher to ensure you get a higher royalty. The best thing to do is to go online and check out similar books in the same niche, and check out their page count, and see how much their retail price is. Bear in mind, that Amazon will normally sell you book for LESS than retail, but you will still receive 45% of retail unless you tell them you are willing to take less in order to drive up sales (not recommended for first-time author, frankly!).
6) If you go FULLY self-published (i.e., set up your own ISBN, deal with Lightning Press, etc), then your royalty is 45% of retail. Subtract your printing costs from that, and that is your net profit per book. That is what I am doing with my next book.
7) Last option: getting the books printed in bulk (most do this overseas) can drive the cost per book WAY down, but you have a massive front-loaded investment at high risk because the minimum run is usually 1000 books or more to get a good price. PLUS you have the set-up costs, as it is not the same as digital POD. Any time I have seen new authors do this, they end up with a house full of hundreds of unsold books, and feel very discouraged. I don’t recommend it unless you have a solid promotional platform and good distribution set up. ALSO, bear in mind that if you go this route, book distributors tend to take the books on consignment and they don’t pay anything if the books don’t sell. And who do you think is responsible for the marketing? You guessed it – you. Furthermore, they might take 300 books from you when they first come out, but they can RETURN every book that hasn’t sold (or worse–been returned to the retail shops!) after a certain period of time.
BTW, I help self-published mind-body-spirit authors via my site Spirit Authors at http://spiritauthors.com. I’m re-opening Module 3 on self-publishing in February 2011. The course for writing your book (Module 1) and building your online platform (Module 2) are already available. You can take a 7-day test drive of those courses for only $1.

Lynn Serafinn, promotion manager for #1 seller mind-body-spirit authors, on how to understand your relationship with marketing, identify your target audience and find your potential readers.
Many authors come to me for marketing advice just as their books are getting ready for publication. You will, however, note that I have placed this module BEFORE the module on preparing for publication. That is because, quite frankly, if you do not start your marketing long before your book is even finished being written, then you are apt to have a book come out and be extremely disappointed in the sales results. You might ask, “How can I market a book that isn’t even written yet.” The answer is simple. You aren’t. You are marketing YOU. That is what this lesson is about. It will really get you thinking about your personal relationship with all those wonderful people in the world who will be reading your book in the not-so-distant future. It will give you some strategies to identify them, know them, find them and reach them in an authentic, spirit-based way. If you find yourself resisting any of the material in the lesson (and I have had many a client and colleague for whom some of these ideas pushed them to their “edge”), slow down and take as much time as you need to understand why you are resisting. To understand this resistance fully, we will be exploring what I consider to be the key factors that influence how we approach the subject of self-promotion and online marketing
Our relationship with money/selling
Our relationship with technology
Our relationship with other people
Our relationship with ourselves (and I mean our TRUE Selves)
And after that self-examination, you’ll be ready to embark on a journey exploring how these factors will impact the success of your book, as you take the first step towards building your promotional platform — identifying, finding and reaching your targeted readers.
The above introduction is from Lesson 1 of Spirit Authors Module 2:
Pre-Publication Marketing Musts (aka “100 Days to Build Your Online Promotional Platform).
In that lesson, you will:
Explore your relationship with money, marketing and selling
Learn how to identify your target audience and why this is important
Learn the two key goals of early marketing
Outline the infrastructure you need for finding your audience online
Create a plan for reaching your audience
For more information about the complete 10-week course, which includes audio downloads, full transcripts, weekly workbooks, access to member forum and monthly members-only calls, see http://spiritauthors.com/module-2/mod-2-overview. You can take the course for a 7-day “test drive” for only $1, and get some great free bonus gifts just for checking us out.

Week 10: Tricks for Staying Sane, Saving Time and Keeping it Real
Subtitle of this newly revamped module: “100 Days to Build Your Online Promotional Platform”
LESSON SUMMARY
This module has taken us into the realms of some very challenging learning, especially for those who are less familiar with technology, blogs and/or social networking. As a result, it’s easy to imagine that some people might feel overwhelmed and will experience a very sharp ‘learning curve’ as they begin to apply everything we’ve covered in this module. Surely some people might wonder how they will be able to achieve all that they need to achieve, what to speak of writing their book. They might even suffer from a fear of losing their identity in the process, feeling as though they have been swallowed up by the great soup of technology into which they have fallen.
Thus, I felt it was highly important to close this module with a lesson on how to stay sane, save time and BE YOURSELF during this process of building your online platform. How can we get everything done, maintain our chosen lifestyle, and feel like ourselves as we enter the arena of serious online promotion?
OBJECTIVES FOR THE WEEK
In this lesson, you will learn:
Lynn’s top 5 tips for staying sane while managing all the things needed to get done
Lynn’s top 5 tips for saving time and being efficient in your promotional platform building
Lynn’s top 3 tips for “keeping it real” as you build your promotional platform

Week 9: Choosing and Using Forums and Niche Networks to Expand Your Influence
Subtitle of this newly revamped module: “100 Days to Build Your Online Promotional Platform”
LESSON SUMMARY
So far, we’ve talked a lot about the “big” social media like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. But there are many other forms of social media that can help to build our online platform in ways the larger networks do not necessarily provide. The media we will be exploring in this lesson are forums and niche networks.
A forum is an online place where people who share a common interest or problem come together to discuss a special topic, share ideas and tips, and offer/ask for support, etc. A niche network is an online place where people who share a common interest come together to make friends, socialise, share personal and professional resources, etc. Typically every member would have their own profile, and the site might give people the opportunity to create blogs, post events, start or join special interest groups, send and receive private messages, and other features.
What do forums and niche networks offer us that may not be provided by larger social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, etc? How do we choose the right forums/niche networks for our needs? How do we make the most of what they have to offer?
OBJECTIVES FOR THE WEEK
In this lesson, you will learn:
The purpose of forums and niche networks within your promotional campaigns
Considerations for choosing forums and networks
Considerations for setting up your profile
How to identify useful features
Interaction and rules of engagement
Using them for leads generation
Staying current, weeding out the dead wood

Book promotion coach and campaign manager Lynn Serafinn reflects on the Law of Attraction when her client, Luis Diaz’s book Memory in the Cells hits Number 1.
I learn so much every day of my life.
Let me set the context. Just a little over 24 hours ago, my fantastic client (and I really mean that), Luis Angel Diaz, launched his book Memory in the Cells: how to change behavioral patterns and release the pain body. The book, which was originally written in Spanish and has only now been translated into English, is about healing your emotions at the deepest level of your being. I first met Luis on the Ning networks, and have watched his work for the past few years. When he first approached me to be the campaign manager for his book, I knew that he already had cultivated a widespread, loyal audience in the Spanish-speaking world for decades, and that the release of this new translation of Memory in the Cells would be his first real introduction into the English-speaking audience at a global level.
Over the course of the past 5 months or so, I have been working closely with Luis and his team to create a wonderful promotional campaign that would reflect his personality, his values, and the true essence of what he does. That is really the fundamental principle behind all the promotional campaigns I co-create with my authors. My campaigns aren’t really about the book so much as they are about the author (and, yes, we create them together—that is absolutely vital). In this way, the campaign becomes something unique that cannot be duplicated by anyone else. It is my experience that when the heart and soul of the author is fully present within the core of the campaign, the campaign has a special sparkle to it that “magically” makes it work—even if it is a first-time, self-published author.
I call this approach “the path of least resistance to the Self” and it’s my fundamental principle to how I approach life. My core belief is that when we are truly and visibly authentic in the world, then all that is meant to flow into our lives comes to us with ease and grace.
“Ease” doesn’t mean we don’t WORK for it—heck no! Frankly, during these Amazon book launches, I have to block out 3 solid days because there is simply so much to do and so much promo copy to write that I’m pretty much “on call” 24 hours of the day during that time (I didn’t go to bed last night until 5am, and then I got up again at 9am). When I say “ease” I mean that the ideas are flowing, the energy is flowing and you just plain feel fantastic (even if you ARE in serious need of sleeping for about 12 hours straight after the launch is all over!).
Now, a lot of people might say that this sounds like the “Law of Attraction.” But the funny thing is, I never have used that term to describe my approach to life. In fact, I’ve pretty much shunned the term because I found the film version of The Secret to present things in a way I couldn’t really relate to. It all looked too simple—desire, believe, receive. I remember the scene in the film where the girl looks in the shop window at a very expensive necklace and it’s suddenly around her neck—well, I must confess it put me off the whole film because it seemed shallow to me (I do admit I have never read the book; I am told it is much better).
Well, what is so funny (or at least I think it is) is that yesterday I came face-to-face with The Secret, and I’m feeling like it’s a real test of my own power of intention!
Within a few short hours of the release of Memory in the Cells, it SHOT up like rocket to the #1 place in Canada in three categories including Mental and Spiritual Healing and New Age (which is a massive category, and VERY hard to get to #1). Luis’s book even surpassed authors like Louise Hay and Eckhart Tolle and so many others you would recognise. Moreover, it achieved an astonished rank of 14th of ALL books in Canada. That means, out of something like 2 million titles, his is the 14th bestseller of ALL of them in any category. It’s remarkable to say the least, and I am really feeling pretty pleased with myself today, especially as (as of this writing), the book is STILL holding strong to the #1 place.
Have a look at the illustrious company he is in:
And again #1 in New Age in Canada…
But here’s where The Secret comes in.
The book also got as high as #5 in the UK and a very impressive #3 in the US, and the rankings in the US were just a few books shy of the top 100 of all books, which is, frankly, astronomically good for ANY author, what to speak of a self-published (and first-time in English) author like Luis. But you know how it is… once you have a taste for #1 you want it all. I WANT his book to go to #1 in the US. Like a hawk I’ve been watching the rankings every hour and I see it creeping up 1 notch at a time… holding at #3 for hours and hours and hours…
So then I thought I’d take a look to see what’s sitting in front of him at #2.
Can you guess?
Yup. Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret!
Ironic, isn’t it? It is sitting there like a big giggling challenge for me, seeing if my desire for Luis’ success is powerful enough to “attract” that elusive #1 slot in the United States. It’s asking me, “How much do you really want this?” “How much to you really believe you will receive it?”
Ok, here’s my answer: Totally on both counts.
I REALLY want this for both Luis and myself:
For Luis, I believe reaching that pinnacle in his genre would give a real push to his speaking platform in the United States, and worldwide.
And for me, well, I just keep aiming to get higher and higher on each campaign I create because every time I push the boundary that much more, it brings in more energy and potential for my future clients and makes my business stronger. It’s also creating more abundance not only in my life, but also in the lives of others, because the more my business grows, the more people I hire to work on campaigns with me!
So right now, I actually have come to a completely different relationship with The Secret and the idea of “Law of Attraction”. I am viewing both as a wonderful opportunity for me to create a solution to my desire for Luis to move into the #1 slot on Amazon US today.
And so I wrote this article.
And seeing “obstacles” as not being obstacles at all, but rather as opportunities for creating new solutions to what we most desire in life is, I suspect, what “The Secret” really is, after all.
So, as I said, I learn so much every day.
Let’s see what happens.
You can find Luis’ wonderful #1-selling book Memory in the Cells at http://memoryinthecells.com. And just to “attract” you to check it out, if you buy the book TODAY, you can receive over 30 free downloadable gifts from an array of international experts in many fields of personal development. I’m also offering my mini eCourse “Making Friends with the Monsters Under Your Bed.” I’ve received well over 100 requests for the download in just the past day. Certainly attracting something!

Lynn Serafinn shares thoughts on shifting from a being die-hard indie artist to approaching a major publisher.
Some of you who know me and my work might be surprised to find out that it was only a few months ago when I wrote my first full book proposal. It’s true I was a ghost-writer for another author and my work has been (anonymously) published in several books by a prominent New Age publisher. But I never needed to write proposals for those books. And it’s also true I’ve written loads of business and project proposals in my time– especially when I was the head of a college department– so I know what it takes to write a proposal to “land” a contract. But I had never written an actual book proposal for my own writing until this contest.
Why? Because most of my life, I’ve been something of a “die hard indie”. It comes from my background as an independent musician/label owner in the 1990s. Since the 80s, our band had tried to get our recordings heard by major labels, but learned quickly that it was virtually impossible to get a big label to listen to an unsolicited demo. So, we started our own label, and gradually built up a following by getting our titles into major independent distributors in the US and the UK. We reached a level of success when our release entitled the Imagine EP hit #1 on several club charts in 1994.
It was then we had a brief encounter with a major record label-one of the top 3 in the world. The A&R (the person who signs artists to the label) had been given our record as a “buzz” title from the owner of an underground record shop in Boston, and he called us from New York saying he wanted to come down and meet us in Arizona (where we lived at the time), as he was interested in signing us. Had they done so, it would have meant we would have had worldwide distribution, MTV videos and have been sent on tour with some of the biggest names in electronic dance in the world at that time. It was every musician’s dream come true.
Or so we thought.
When we actually met the A&R face-to-face, it became very obvious he had clear intentions of changing our image and sound into something we were not, and we simply didn’t want to become. Our band was an electronic trance group, but he proposed a long list of “improvements” for us, including bringing in big rock drummers and sexy young female vocalists. Being in our late 30s, the A&R more or less said we were “too old” for MTV and we would have to do something to make us “saleable.”
But the truth was, in spite of the A&R thinking we were “too old”, we were actually “too young” as artists to move into the arena of working with a major label. We weren’t used to working to deadlines and were accustomed to having the luxury of taking as long as we wanted to complete projects. We were still finding our “voice” and creating our sound, and bringing in professional producers who would impose their own “spin” on our embryonic sound threatened to stop our creative growth altogether. And from a marketing standpoint, although we had managed to get a #1 club hit, we were still just getting started on building our following and didn’t really know our target audience fully, or how to reach them at a global level. Because we had a very small platform, if the A&R changed our image as he intended, we were likely to lose the audience we already had, and not appeal to the audience to which he would be targeting.
We started to realise we simply weren’t ready for this leap. Believe it or not, I used to wake up at night with panic attacks at the thought of it! After all those years of thinking this was what I wanted, I realised something wasn’t right about it. As a result, our connection to the label just sort of dissolved after a couple of months, and our label continued on with our own independent enterprises.
My experience in the music industry certainly coloured my decision to go self-published when I was getting ready to release my book The Garden of the Soul in 2009. I figured big publishers are probably like big record labels in that you needed to know the right time to approach them. And now that I have been self-published for the past year, and have since created successful marketing campaigns for many other authors, both published and self-published, I do think my reasoning was correct.
In my experience, there are 7 main factors to consider in your decision to approach a publisher:
Discipline. Could you make a commitment to meet writing deadlines if given them? Have you transcended the trap of ONLY being able to write when you are “inspired” or can you sit down and get into the groove when you need to?
Stylistic maturity. Is your writing style “mature” (well past the embryonic stage)? Could others easily talk about your style and your message as compared to other books? Is your style powerful and developed enough that editors would not want to change it significantly?
Emotionally prepared. Are you ready to “show up” as a public image? Are you ready to be seen, and critiqued? Are you ready to speak transparently on a global level? Are you ready to release your vision, unattached to whether people like it or not?
Identity. Do you know who you are as a writer and as a person? Do you have a clear idea of your ‘public image’, i.e, who you are to your readers, fans and audience? Can you stand calmly within the wisdom of your own identity when dealing with a publisher?
Platform. Do you have a well-established platform (i.e., a large fan base of people who know your name and your writing)? This is undoubtedly one of the major factors publishers will consider when you approach them, and something that will make it much less likely for them to try to “reshape” your image.
Marketing. Do you know how to reach your audience? Do you understand principles of marketing? Can you explain how you would market your book to publisher in a way that would make them say, “Hey, this one has some great ideas”?
Time Commitment. Are you ready and able to commit LOTS of time to promoting your book? Is your life free or flexible with regards to family or other work commitments? Could you travel frequently without disrupting the rest of your life?
Speaking for myself, I couldn’t give a 100% “yes” answer to any of these things when I first met the A&R back in 1994. In 2009, when I went to publish The Garden of the Soul, I’d say I had these covered about 75%. But, in my opinion, 75% wasn’t enough for me to approach a publisher at that time. Before I approached a publisher, I wanted to be able to give my full 100%. THEN the time would be right… at least for me.
When I wrote my proposal this year, I felt it to be truly a transformative process. I realised when I was writing it that I had finally reached my “100% Ready” place. I knew who I was. I felt I could write at the drop of a hat. I had a platform. I understood marketing. And most of all, I had already written my book and I completely believed in it.
Being a self-published writer was ABSOLUTELY the best thing for me when I had chosen to do so. The experience helped me develop as a person, as a writer and as a businesswoman. But now I have firmly established my platform, and really know who I am as a writer, I feel confident about making the shift to working with a publisher over the coming year… and at the same time, I also have the confidence that I am able to flourish as a proud indie author, and enjoy the ride on my own as well.
I hope you found these reflections and pointers to be of value in your own journey as an author. Please do leave a comment below to share your own thoughts and experiences.

In a previous post, I told you about the Next Top Spirit Author Contest in which I am a contestant. The contest is open to unpublished or self-published authors. Authors did not need to have completed (or even started) their book to enter. I entered my book The Garden of the Soul: lessons from four flowers that unearth the Self, which I self-published just a little over a year ago. My hope is to take it to a much wider audience, and also to get some backing for the follow-up I am currently writing, A Practical Guide to the Garden of the Soul, which contains 80 practical lessons for cultivating the four principles in The Garden of the Soul.
Today (Monday May 3rd) marks the final day of Round 1. Since the contest opened to the public vote on March 29th, tens of thousands of people have voted for their favourites amongst more than 3000 entries. Now the field is going to be narrowed down to 250 who will advance to Round 2, based primarily upon their public vote, as well as a small challenge the authors were given to do.
Round 2 will be a bit different because the 250 Round 2 authors will then construct a book proposal for their book, which will go under the scrutiny of Hampton Roads publishers, who are offering the Grand Prize in the contest– a pretty nifty publishing contract. A portion of the points in Round 2 will once again come from the public vote.
So by Tuesday, thousands of authors and authors-to-be, including myself, will find out whether or not we will advance to the next phase of this competition. I can feel the energy getting really “buzzy” amongst the authors these past few days.
Although this is only Round 1, the contest has already been quite a journey. For many, the very act of creating an audio or video “pitch” was a major achievement. For others, it was the challenge of stepping out of their comfort zone to ask people to vote for them. Speaking for myself, if nothing else happens as a result of having entered this competition, I am grateful for two things: 1) being put under a deadline to make a new book trailer (I am SO pleased with how it turned out and it is getting a lot of hits on YouTube) and 2) meeting dozens of great new authors who are now connected with me on Facebook and Twitter. Both of these are great gifts in their own right.
In some ways, Round 1 has been a bit like being in the auditions for the X-Factor (our UK equivalent of “American Idol”). Behind the scenes, we have a “share” page on the contest site that is sort of our equivalent of “The X-Factor House”, where everyone hangs out together and learns the idiosyncrasies of the others. It’s really interesting to watch and interact with all the fascinating personalities there. And just like The X-Factor, while there is a lot of love and connection amongst the contestants, there is also the underlying knowledge that this is, after all, a competition, and people will be voted off, bit by bit. It could happen to any one of us. That’s the nature of any competition, and it is vital for all of us to know how to “be with” the competitive process, without allowing it to affect our sense of Self and inner determination.
When I was a young musician, I took every defeat in competitive scenarios as a blow against my self-worth. Because I grew to fear judgment and rejection, I became afraid to take risks for many years, and thus I limited my creative growth and personal empowerment for a very long time.
But these days I approach such challenges quite differently. I apply my whole self to the task, and allow myself to take the risk of being “rejected”. These days, I feel the most important thing in life is to have the self-knowledge that I did not hold myself back from applying myself fully, and that I did the absolute best I could at that particular moment.
While taking this approach to a competition (and life in general) does not ensure we will “win” a specific reward, I do believe when we are fully ready to step into both the risks and responsibilities involved in the act of succeeding, we will win the award, the title, the prize, the praise, the gift– or the learning– we are meant to receive. If you do not hold yourself back from the Universe, it will hold nothing back from you.
As far as I am concerned, the fact that everyone in the contest has stepped up to the plate and “pitched” their vision to the world makes them all winners, already on the pathway to their own dreams.
I wish all the spiritual authors in the contest the very best of luck.
If you have voted for me already, I’d like to thank you warmly for your support. And if you haven’t had a chance to yet, it would be great if you took a few minutes to do this before the end of the day today (Monday). Here’s how:
As my thank you gift to everyone who votes for me, you can pick up 4 audiobook excerpts from the book. That’s over 1 hour of fr*ee audio. You’ll see the link to the gift right after you have voted.
If you are on the social networks, it would be great if you clicked the big Twitter or Facebook buttons on my page and shared them with your friends.
Recently I’ve been telling you about a new book called Awakened Wisdom: A Guide to Reclaiming Your Brillianceby myfriend and colleague Patrick Ryan. Well the book had its official Amazon launch yesterday, and I simply had to write to you to tell you that within the first few hours, Awakened Wisdom became a bestseller in spirituality in both the US and Canada.
Most impressively, the book reached an amazing rank of 29th in overall books, out of many millions, and took the Number-1 slot in Canadian spirituality sales (click to see a screen shot), and the #3 slot in self-help, sharing the very same page on Amazon with top-selling spirituality titles such as Don Miguel Ruiz’s Four Agreements, Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth and Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love. At one point, Patrick and Eckhart were dancing back and forth in the top 5 spots on the Canadian list, which is interesting because so many people have compared these two writers even before the book was released.
In the US, where the competition is even steeper, the book reached the Number-2 rank in Kindle spiritual self-help titles, and the paperback was the 18th most popular spiritual title yesterday. I have high hopes that today, that figure will soar up later today, as news of the success of the book starts to spread.
Not too shabby for a first day, don’t you think?
Born in the Canadian prairies, and surviving a near-death experience in his youth, Patrick Ryan has been a life-long spiritual seeker. He spent some time as a Buddhist monk in Burma, and has studied the world over with healers, shamans and other indigenous wise people. The culmination of his multifaceted experiences, from the home-spun to the esoteric, is to be found within his unique, and inimitably down-to-earth, system of spiritual development he calls “Awakened Wisdom”, which he has taught in workshops throughout the world for several years. The essence of those teachings, along with practical exercises for cultivating them in your life, may now be found within the pages of his newly bestselling book.
I should also mention that I consider Patrick to be one of my personal mentors. I studied with him for nearly a year on the Co-Active Leadership programme, and I also took his internationally acclaimed Awakened Wisdom course. I can say without any reservation that my life would not be where it is today had our paths not crossed. I was my great delight and pleasure to be able to give something back to him by acting as his campaign manager for this thrilling Amazon book launch.
The Awakened Wisdom launch continues today and tomorrow, and in celebration of its official release, Patrick Ryan and a group of his colleauges, including authors, coaches, entrepreneurs and spiritual teachers are giving away over 40 exceptional personal development and spiritual growth gifts when you purchase a copy the book during the launch.
One of these gifts is an unprecedented 2-session “Awakened Wisdom Virtual Experience”, in which author Patrick Ryan will take participants on a journey through the “8 States of an Awakened Life” via webcast in May. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a world-renowned spiritual teacher—and now top-selling spirituality author.
I myself am offering four never-before-offered audio meditations from my Garden of the Soul Workshop, on the Four Principles of Give, Receive, Become and Be.
To pick up your copy of the Awakened Wisdom, get all those free gifts, and sign up for this very special event, which is open ONLY to those who purchase the book this week, go to:
Make sure you do this as soon as possible, as the launch ends this Friday, April 23 (extended from April 22). And if you are reading this AFTER that date, you can still find out how to buy the book by clicking the link above.
Thanks for your support in helping this rising new star in the spiritul author universe shine so brightly! I wish ALL of you Spirit Authors reading this a future where YOU are shining even more brightly.
Please check out the video I made as my “pitch” for the “Next Top Spiritual Author” contest. I have entered my book The Garden of the Soul: lessons from four flowers that unearth the Self, which as many of you know, is currently self-published.
The grand prize is a book contract from Hampton Roads Publishing, one of the top Body-Mind-Spirit publishers in the world, along with a promotional package worth over $50,000.
There are 3 rounds of voting. The first round starts MONDAY March 29, 2010, and ends April 25, 2010. I could REALLY use your vote to help me advance to Round 2.
Here’s the video podcast I made for my contest entry. I poured my heart and soul into it!
And here’s the same video as it appears on YouTube. I’m putting both versions because sometimes people have trouble viewing certain video formats. If you cannot see EITHER of these videos on your screen (or you wish to see it in a LARGER window), view it on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8P92UVYwCQ.
If you think The Garden of the Soul deserves to go to a wider audience, please help me by:
1) Watching this video to help you decide whether you think I deserve to win the title Next Top Spiritual Author AND THEN
2) Voting for me at http://tinyurl.com/TopAuthorLynn between March 29 – May 3 (the page will not be live before the 29th).
And there is NO pressure to choose only one author to win this contest! There are hundreds of great authors for you to consider, and you can vote for as many authors as you like (but you can only vote ONCE for each author per round).
I you can help me advance to Round 2 of this exciting competition, I will be EXTREMELY grateful!
My motivation is fuelled by your encouragement and comments. I’d love to hear what you have to say about the video, my book and whatever else, in the comments box below.
Thank you everyone!
Warm wishes,
Lynn Serafinn

HOST: Lynn Serafinn, bestselling author, transformation coach, book promotion coach, radio host, Creator Spirit Authors
Every week I get dozens of questions from readers and social networking friends. I thought today I’d share this one with you, because it is something I am asked almost on a daily basis.
Question: I want to get started in self-publishing, but don’t know what my first move would be. Is it best to get some kind of agent? If I have little money, is it best to raise the money first?
Answer: You can find agents in books like Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook 2010 (Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook), or 2009 Guide To Literary Agents, but you do NOT need an agent for self-publishing. You only would approach an agent if and when you are looking for a publisher. My suggestion is don’t even think of seeking out an agent until you have built your promotional platform and already have a strong following. If you don’t know what I mean by that, please read on
I get dozens of emails every week asking me this same question of “how do I get started?” I have stopped sending out emails and giving free consultations of the topic of self-publishing because it was taking up all my time, and it was not helping people get anywhere. A one-off call or an email explanation is of little use without working together to develop a really structured strategic plan that starts with a strong, targeted promotional platform.
Unfortunately, most new authors haven’t a clue what “a strong targeted promotional platform” means, nor do they know how to do it. And building your promotional platform is THE first step to self-publishing. In fact, building your promotional platform is something you should start at least 6 months before your book is due to come out. I started mine over a year in advance, and I made bestseller lists the day my book came out. Since then, I’ve learned a LOT more, and now I help authors to achieve even better results than I did.
As far as saving up your money, yes, it is very important to decide just how much money you are willing to invest in the production AND promotion of your book over the coming year. But most importantly, you need to decide where that money is going to be spent, and what would make the biggest impact– not only on your sales but also on your overall happiness.
To hire me (or someone else) as a 1-to-1 coach and project manager to help you build your platform and design your book campaign is certainly an alternative (and I work VERY hard for my clients), but hiring a private coach might not be financially possible for some, especially brand new authors.
And from my end, working with one author at a time is great, but simply does not allow me to reach the sheer quantity of people who ask me for help on a weekly basis.
Finding a publisher or hiring someone, whether an agent, a coach or a PR and imagining they will magically take all the “burden” of marketing your book away from you is not only a delusion, but it will also disempower you and disconnect you from your project in the long term. Understanding, reaching and connecting regularly and authentically with your audience is THE key to your long term satisfaction in your career as a mind-body-spirit author.
And for all those reasons, and many more, I started Spirit Authors at www.spiritauthors.com.
I call Spirit Authors a “Virtual Coaching and Learning Experience” for mind-body-spirit authors.
I am utilising my combined skills and professional experience as a teacher, trainer, coach and online promotional expert to design 5 modular courses intended to train both new authors, as well as those who might have published before but may not have gotten the results they wanted.
Module 1 is all about starting and writing your book, and developing your personal style, and understanding what “blocks” you. Of course, if you have already written your book, you don’t have to start here. You can start right in at Module 2.
Module 2 is all about building your online promotional platform. This is something you really should initiate many months before your book is ready to go to print, as it involves establishing a following long before your book is released, using social networking and other means. I really believe this Module is going to be the big cornerstone “eye opener” for many authors.
Module 3 is about getting ready to publish, including understanding about royalties, getting endorsements, finding and working with a copy editor, etc.
Module 4 is about creating a book launch campaign, which is a complex art in itself, and it can be executed properly only when the things I teach in Modules 2 and 3 are in place.
Module 5 is on how to take your book further, after a (hopefully) successful self-publishing launch, so you can expand your visibility and build a business around your profile as an author.
The Spirit Authors site will also include an online professional environment via a Forum, so people can establish connections for joint venture partnering, which is really the foundation of self-publishing success (or any internet-based businesses today).
In addition, I am currently compiling a list of very valuable resources for authors, which I am making available only to members.
We will also have monthly “Master Mind” calls. I have a HUGE list of people who want to come and share their wisdom with my Spirit Authors. On these calls, you will highly specialised experts in the field, and be able to ask them your questions, and discover their secrets.
And remember: all of these elements are custom designed specifically with the mind-body-spirit author in mind. I am a lifelong artist and spiritual questor (if that’s a word?). I speak YOUR language, and not the language of other cookie-cutter book marketing programmes.
To sum up, the hope and dream I have in creating Spirit Authors is to provide mind-body-spirit authors with all the answers they need to be successful in their writing projects.
The site will be a membership site, and is opening the week of 22-26 February 2010. I have a “Grand Opening Webinar Week” (free of course) with 18 successful authors, publishers, editors, book marketers and others, all with a mind-body-spirit focus, who will be talking on various topics. I am sure you would enjoy it and find the information useful.
If YOU have a comment OR a question about anything to do with self-publishing or the mind-body-spirit market, please do drop it in the comments box below. If I think your question would be of interest to my readers, I will answer it in a future blog post. Please let me know whether or not you wish me to state your name and/or book in the post.
If you want to write a book but just can’t seem to get going, maybe you still need the most important ingredient. Author, coach Lynn Serafinn of Spirit Authors explains.
Perhaps you’ve dreamt of writing a book, but just didn’t know where to start.
You might have told yourself you needed something “more” before you could even think of beginning such a project. You might have told yourself you needed more training or technical understanding. You might have told yourself you needed more time or self discipline. You might have told yourself you needed more connections, more talent, more ideas, more originality, more confidence, more language skills, more… well, you fill in the blanks.
After years of professional experience as a musician, writer, teacher and a coach who works with creative people, there is one thing I have learned: as soon as we humans start to impose such “I-can’t-do-this-until-I-have-more-of-something-or-other” conditions upon our dreams, we completely shut down our natural, creative process. While this is true for all people, it is especially true for the soft, sensitive and highly reflective types of people who write in the mind-body-spirit genre.
I’d like to invite you to forget for a minute about all the things you might have told yourself in the past. There is really only ONE thing you need in order to write a book, especially a mind-body-spirit book: You need to be able to identify why your book must be written. Only when you have truly identified the greater purpose for your book will you be able to get behind it 100%. A clear purpose will serve you far greater than any other “practical” element you have might imagined you needed. During the publication process of my first book, I myself encountered several roadblocks where I worried I might lose hope, but, time after time, the greater purpose of my book brought me back into balance, got me reconnected, and kept me going to bring it to the level of success I wanted.
This is why the very first lesson of Module 1 in the Spirit Authors course is entitled “Identifying Why Your Book Must Be Written”. Notice I use the word “must”. I believe, in the greater scheme of the Universe, your book “must” be written. It’s essential you also believe this, and that you know the reason why this is so. I don’t take an intellectual approach to guide you through this discovery, but a true coaching process to help you uncover all the hidden layers of resistance that may be blocking you from fully connecting to the heart and soul of your book project. Even if you are already writing a book, or have written books in the past, this lesson gives you practical tools to explore and discover the essence of the “life purpose” of your book, so you can not only get started, but stick with it even when the going gets rough.

Question: What DOES a spiritually-minded person who is a social networking mentor, techno-geek, coach, radio host, teacher, distance learning course designer, bestselling mind-body-spirit author with a background in audio and a passion for writing and talking (a lot) do to combine all of her skills, talents and interests in one place?
Hi everyone. Lynn Serafinn here. If you’re reading this Spirit Authors blog (which has not yet officially launched as it’s still in its developmental phase) you probably know me from one of my other “hats”: a transformation coach, radio host or author of the book The Garden of the Soul: lessons from four flowers that unearth the Self. Others of you might know me via social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Ning or LinkedIn. Regardless of from where you might know me, today I’d like to share some other sides to me you may or may not know.
I have spent virtually my whole life engaged in a spiritual journey. I write a good deal about that journey in my book The Garden of the Soul. Now in my mid-50s, I have found a truly peaceful place within myself, and I feel I truly know what Spirit is, and have a deep and meaningful relationship with it.
Since my book came out in April 2009 and became an Amazon mind-body-spirit best-seller (after spending countless hours of my time—but virtually no money—on marketing), I have gained a reputation for my creative online promotional skills. These days I coach/mentor many people on how to use social networking and blogging to develop their writing, and to promote and launch their book.
I had always thought of myself as a “transformation coach”, not a “marketing coach”, so I thought this was a bit unusual at first. But very soon I realised it made perfect sense for me to be moving in this direction. You see, my marketing skills are really the end result of having been an electronic dance artist, small record label owner and freelance musician for many years in the past. In fact, I spent the major part of the last 30 years inventing new ways to promote my work and make a living as an indie artist.
All that professional experience helped me develop a creative and natural approach to self-promotion, and nowadays I help my clients do the same, even those who might have had a “fear” of self-promotion in the past. In short, while many artists (especially those who are spiritually focussed) cringe at the very thought of marketing themselves, I view self-promotion as FUN and ultimately a creative enterprise. It’s all in how authentically you present yourself. It took me a while to “get it”, but once I did, it really worked. Now I help others do the same.
Here’s something else most of you probably DON’T know about me: I also have a Masters degree in a really unusual subject: Adult Education and Distance Learning. That means that I have a bunch of experience designing and delivering online courses. I taught music technology for many years, used to be the head of a large college performing arts department and I even won the Microsoft UK Innovative teacher of the year award for my use of technology in education in 2005. Keeping up with modern technology, I am currently taking a certification course in developing membership sites, like Spirit Authors (see my video in previous post where I show what I am using to make this site).
My interests have always been so varied, it has frequently been difficult to connect all the dots and find a way to express all of my passions in one place. So, what DOES a spiritually-minded person who is a social networking mentor, techno-geek, coach, radio host, teacher, distance learning course designer, bestselling mind-body-spirit author with a background in audio and a passion for writing and talking (a lot) do to combine all of her skills, talents and interests in one place?
Well, she creates Spirit Authors of course! She invents a place where other spiritually-minded authors and related professionals can come together, connect, find support, and learn about writing, online promotion and other things, all through the magic of modern Web 2.0 technology.
For me, creating Spirit Authors means I get to write a lot, talk a lot, teach a lot, coach a lot, meet new people, and get to play with lots of new technological toys. But best of all, all the people who will come to Spirit Authors will be BOTH spiritually-focussed and artistically inclined. It’s just about the most personally fulfilling scenario I could ever imagine. It’s like heaven to me. That’s why I’m using the little fluffy clouds in the banner at the top of the page.
I have never been as motivated and as excited about a new project as I am about Spirit Authors, and I cannot wait to share it with you. Over the coming weeks, I’ll be writing micro-blogs about the Spirit Authors courses, features and, of course, about the exciting Grand Opening that’s coming the week of 22-26 February 2010. I hope you’ll subscribe to the Spirit Authors News Feed by entering your email at the box at the right. Week 8: Using Multi-Media Platforms (YouTube, BlogTalkRadio, etc)
Subtitle of this newly revamped module: “100 Days to Build Your Online Promotional Platform”
LESSON SUMMARY
Over the decades, I have learned both in my educational training and in my professional experience as a teacher that people learn best when their senses are fully engaged. And the same is true for reaching people in marketing. The more we can engage people’s senses through visual, auditory and kinesthetic experiences, the more engaged they will become with the subject matter which we are presenting to them.
And that is what this lesson is all about. It is an introduction to the world of online multimedia — video on YouTube, radio on BlogTalkRadio and podcasting/syndication. While this topic could be a complete course in its own right, this lesson will provide with the fundamental terminology and entry-level knowledge to help you get started in developing a multimedia presence as part of your online promotional platform

LESSON SUMMARY
LinkedIn is perhaps the most elusive online tools for many new social networkers. Many people first come to it and cannot understand how it can possible help them with business and network building, but that is simply because, on the surface, LinkedIn appears to be starkly formal with little opportunity for interaction compared to the colourful interface Facebook provides, and the face-paced exchanges found in Twitter.
But while LinkedIn is definitely more of a professional network than it is a social network, when you explore all it has to offer you will find it to be not only a place where you can thrive and establish your renown as a professional (including a professional author), but also where you can find a virtually endless supply of information and referrals, as well as have access to thousands of people in your target audience.
Much as in the previous lessons on Twitter and Facebook, LinkedIn also integrates the rest of your online platform, but the real keys to the secret powers of LinkedIn will like not only in mastering the rules of engagement, which a very different from other networks, and finding your way around some of the resources it has that no other networks offer.

In this lesson, you will learn:
The purpose of LinkedInand how it is different from other social media

LESSON SUMMARY
Facebook has become a household word over the past few years. And small wonder. In a recent video for TED entitled “Pendulum”, marketing pro Michael Drew cited if Facebook were a nation, it would be the 4th largest on the planet.
There’s a lot to Facebook that is often misunderstood. Many people think it is a way to stay connected with personal friends and family. And that is surely something Facebook can provide. However, the value of Facebook as a means of locating and communicating directly with potentially millions of targeted clients and/or customers is something many people are now only just discovering. And while it is quite a different entity to Twitter, being more limited in some ways and more powerful than others, in terms of its ability to identify people in your target audience, it scores well above the potential by Twitter.
Much as in the previous lesson on Twitter, the key to unlock the secret powers of Facebook is not just in Facebook itself, but in how it integrates the rest of your online platform. And, of course, it is in knowing what, when and how to engage with others on Facebook.
OBJECTIVES FOR THE WEEK
In this lesson, you will learn:
The purpose of Facebook and how it is different from other social media
Considerations for setting up your profile
Profile versus Fan page versus groups
How to use Facebook for leads generation
How to use “tagging” in Facebook and why you want to
Finding, organising and communicating with Friends and Fans
Interaction and rules of engagement – what not to do; how it is different from Twitter
Strategies for driving traffic to your fan page
Integration Facebook with your blog and other media
Utilising contests and adverts for leads generation and interactivity

LESSON SUMMARY
Twitter is a phenomenon that has taken over our planet with such rapidity it almost leaves us breathless. And quite appropriately, too, because Twitter itself is arguably the most rapid format of social media we currently have (with the possible exception of Blip, which is a micro-blogging platform to share music and video).
Many people don’t “get” Twitter the first time they encounter it. They see endless streams of short “micro blogs” and don’t understand how this could be interesting our useful. Furthermore, they don’t understand how it could be very “social.” How do you make friends or useful business contacts on Twitter? How to do you gain followers? Who should YOU follow and why do you want to follow them? How in the world can this lead to business growth?
The key to unlock the secret powers of Twitter is not just in Twitter itself—it is in how it integrates with numerous other parts of your online platform, including your blog, your other social networks, and 3rd-party open source software that will make Twitter come ALIVE. And, of course, it is in knowing what, when and how to Tweet, and how to engage with others on Twitter.
OBJECTIVES FOR THE WEEK
In this lesson, you will learn:
The purpose of Twitter and how it is different from other social media
Considerations for setting up your profile
How to set up auto follow and why you should
How to use Twitter for leads generation
Structuring Tweets
Interaction and rules of engagement
Finding followers and people to follow
Integration Twitter with blog and other media
Making the most of your material
Overview a range of supplementary Twitter Applications (“Apps”)

The truth is, Lynn, I've never seen anything like what you arranged for E.Dee Conrad’s A New Dawn Awaits Amazon launch. It was unbelievably well organized and thorough. You really are an amazingly talented woman.
“I was truly blessed when I found Lynn Serafinn, best selling author of Garden of the Soul, on Twitter. I contacted Lynn and asked if she would coach me on how she landed her book on the Amazon best seller list. And even more blessed when she said,"Yes!" I have worked closely with Lynn over the past several months to prepare for the launch of my book, Blast Off! The Surefire Success Plan To Launch Your Dreams Into Reality, which reached NUMBER 1 in US and Canada due to Lynn's leading the way on my internet marketing campaign. I could not have done it without her! Lynn is a cross between techno-wizard, (she knows the ins and outs of social media), writer extraordinaire, champion networker and graceful conductor. Oh, and she has a heart of gold and really had a sincere desire to make my campaign successful. If you have a chance to work with Lynn in her business, Spirit Authors, you will be blessed as well. I highly recommend Lynn as a coach, and her one-of-a-kind success system, Spirit Authors." — Allison Maslan, President, Blast Off Coaching and Speaking, San Diego, California
Lynn recently came onto my radar while I was working with Allison Maslan. I was immediately drawn to her and wanted to promote her on Girlfriend Mentors. In our conversation to set up an interview with her I shared that I was using my blog danceofabeautifulwoman.com as a way to create and write my book.
I have been very stop and go with this as I am involved in so many other projects, but within minutes of mentioning it to her, I realized I was now in a coaching session! Lynn is such a natural coach that the conversation turned so easily to what I needed in order to make my book a reality. I feel so empowered to move forward and see it happen and she created a space for me to commit a date for the first draft.
When we were finished I told her two things: "I feel like I need to write a check!" and that she is "NEATO!" I've decided she is actually SUPER DUPER NEATO! Thanks Lynn - it was nuch more than I asked for! — Schall Adams, Founder of Girlfriend Mentors, Reno, Nevada
