LESSON SUMMARY
Many new authors have the misconception that the primary benefit of writing a book will be the income generated from sales or royalties. But in speaking with authors in virtually every genre, and most especially in the mind-body-spirit genre (in the broadest sense of the term) I have seen that the true benefits of writing a book lie in how it opens up doors for you both personally and professionally.
A reputable book can become your ticket to finding speaking engagements, delivering workshops, becoming a sought-after media guest, and being seen as an expert in your field. It also enables you to create successful partnerships with other authors, publishing professionals, charities or other social causes, which are in alignment with your values and your message. Economically, a published book can also pave the way for you to create other products, which generate additional sources of income for you. And because your book has opened up the doors to all those things, it can ultimately serve to increase your platform and following, making it much easier for you when you feel you are ready to approach a traditional publisher or literary agent.
To get started on this path, we must first identify how your book may be developed into a personal brand for you. Some of you reading this might already have established this, as your book may have evolved from something (such as a workshop or other service) you were already delivering. In either case, the goal of this week’s lesson will be to explore and expand upon all the angles of how your book can be used as personal brand, so you can to increase your reach and impact in the world, making your life more fulfilling and vibrant as a result.
