LESSON SUMMARY

Let Your Book Grow!Many new authors have the misconception that the primary benefit of writing a book will be the income generated from sales or royalties. But in speaking with authors in virtually every genre, and most especially in the mind-body-spirit genre (in the broadest sense of the term) I have seen that the true benefits of writing a book lie in how it opens up doors for you both personally and professionally.

A reputable book can become your ticket to finding speaking engagements, delivering workshops, becoming a sought-after media guest, and being seen as an expert in your field. It also enables you to create successful partnerships with other authors, publishing professionals, charities or other social causes, which are in alignment with your values and your message. Economically, a published book can also pave the way for you to create other products, which generate additional sources of income for you. And because your book has opened up the doors to all those things, it can ultimately serve to increase your platform and following, making it much easier for you when you feel you are ready to approach a traditional publisher or literary agent.

To get started on this path, we must first identify how your book may be developed into a personal brand for you. Some of you reading this might already have established this, as your book may have evolved from something (such as a workshop or other service) you were already delivering. In either case, the goal of this week’s lesson will be to explore and expand upon all the angles of how your book can be used as personal brand, so you can to increase your reach and impact in the world, making your life more fulfilling and vibrant as a result.

OBJECTIVES FOR THE WEEK:

In this week’s lesson, you will:

  1. Identify what we mean by “personal brand”
  2. Identify who you are as public image
  3. Identify the key messages you represent
  4. Create key questions for possible interviews
  5. Identify what modes of delivery you will use to get your message across
  6. Learn the important connection between servant leadership and positioning yourself as an expert

If you’ve taken other Spirit Authors modules, you’ll know that there are often about 5 or 6 challenges for week. This week, there are only 3 challenges, because they involve a lot of research and work outside the lesson. If you complete all these challenges this week, you will actually have gone a long way to getting your campaign off the ground!

The aim of Module 5 is to give you a comprehensive strategy for sustaining and expanding upon the success of your book, by increasing your visibility, income streams and public image, and to enable you to feel confident and ready to approach a major publisher when the time is right for you.

Who is it for?Anyone who already published a book, whether recently or in the past, and who wants to know how to sustain public interest and create a long-term career based upon their credibility as an author.
NOTE:It is NOT necessary to have taken the previous modules to take Module 5 BUT if you have not yet established a strong online promotional platform, I recommend you take Module 2 (and possibly Module 4) before moving on to Module 5.
